Benefits Of Solar Energy For Residential Buildings Go Beyond Environmental Advantages
Earlier this year, a report by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) proposed mandatory residential rooftop solar for buildings in India. India is not alone in this renewable revolution. Countries around the world are becoming aware and taking renewable energy more seriously.
Rooftop solar has been a key part of this revolution. But despite solar power’s great potential, few people are actually using it.
According to a recent report in August 2018, India is 94 percent short of the target of installing 40,000 megawatt (MW) of rooftop solar power capacity by 2022.
It’s time Indian housing societies take a note of the advantages of installing solar power for apartment building. And these benefits go beyond the much talked about environmental advantages.
The advantages of solar energy for residential buildings
Insolergy Technologies has enabled many residential buildings in India to harness the power of solar energy. Ganesham Society in Pune is one of them. They are now saving an estimated amount of Rs. 6.10 lakh every year in electricity bills. The power produced by the panels would light up common areas (lobbies, staircases), thereby directly reducing the society’s maintenance bills. The building also has a net metering system to allow surplus power generated by solar panels to be exported back to the grid. Read full case study.
